Please don’t fall for it!
Most scam callers want your money – but, these more recent con artists want to scare people and disrupt lives. Instead of demanding payment, verifying social security numbers and other personal info they can use (at least for now), they are pretending to be law enforcement while telling individuals that he or she failed to appear for jury duty and should turn themselves in or face arrest. The use of real names from local law enforcement rosters makes the scam story more believable to some, but please do not be deceived.
The Clay County Clerk of Court and Comptroller’s office manages our local jury duty process, so we know the claims made by the prank caller(s) are bogus. Due to COVID-19, all jury trials are currently suspended – there is NO jury duty taking place at this time and no related warrants issued. Please be aware.
